Location and Setting Analysis
When looking at opening sequences, location and setting is always established fairly early on. This allows the audience to establish the genre, for example, films within the horror or thriller genre are usually located in an isolated location to create enigma and a sinister atmosphere.
I have chosen to look at 2 different opening sequences from different genres to see the different locations which are used.
'Iron man' is a film from the genre Action Sci-Fi and Fantasy:
Location and setting is straight away shown through a range of long shots of different desert shots
The non-diegetic music shows the setting as upbeat
Location is further understood by the mise-en-scene of characters in army suits as they are in a dessert
Army tanks are shown which shows the setting is a war zone
Fire and bombs shows the location is unsafe
The next location in the opening sequence is shown as a very dark room which creates enigma for the audience
A new location is shown which shows people sitting on tables, the setting is now seen as safe
This was a false sense of security for the audience as suddenly guns where brought into this setting
I have chosen to look at 2 different opening sequences from different genres to see the different locations which are used.

'Red Riding Hood' is a film in the genre of horror:
- Location is similarly shown through a series of long shots, however, these shots have probably been taken on a drone as it looks like a birds eye view
- Unsettling/sinister music has been used - this emphasis's the isolation of the setting
