Opening Sequence 1 - 'The Dark Knight Rises'

The first opening sequence I will look at is from the superhero movie, 'The Dark Knight Rises'.



This opening sequence has conventions in it, I will do a list of these below:

• Production companies are shown firstly
• Enigma is established as the audience wants to know who the antagonist is, mystery is created through this
• The antagonist's mannerisms are established - we see him on a plane with a mask around his mouth
• The antagonist is established 
• A setting is established but the audience doesn't know if the movie is going to continue in that setting
• Action is shown throughout the opening, this creates even more enigma
